Petrol station operator Jos Richardson & Son has invested £6.5m across two sites near Malton and Goole.
The now Howden-based family firm has put £3m into its truckstop facility at its native Goole, adding another 55 overnight spaces along with a new shower and welfare block. That project, which is match-funded by National Highways, follows the demolition of a former car showroom at Goole which made way for Starbucks and KFC restaurants.
And at the firm's forthcoming Eden Service Station site near Malton, £3.5m has been spent on developing a new fuel station and convenience store - which will be branded bp and Spar respectively. It expands Jos Richardson's long term relationship with James Hall of Preston, which is the wholesaler to Spar in the North of England.
The site's hot and cold food to go offer will include James Hall’s Clayton Park Bakery and Cheeky Coffee Co brands. Leeds-based McFadden Building & Civil Engineering Ltd is carrying out the building of the service station - just off the A64 near Eden Camp - which will create 12 new jobs including full and part-time roles. The site will be Jos Richardson's 12th when it opens in April.
Joseph Richardson, managing director of Jos Richardson & Sons, explained: "The site is located just off off the A64, a busy commuter route that’s also popular with tourists and day-trippers visiting the coast, York and the North York Moors. Before we bought it, the developer had already secured planning permission for the service station and drive-through restaurants.
"On another plot on the same site, there’s a new McDonald’s being developed and there’s also planning permission for a drive-through coffee shop. This was very appealing to us as it will make the area an important hub for the local communities of Malton and Pickering, as well as those passing on their commute to work or enjoying holidays and day trips.
