US burger chain Carl's JR to start UK rollout in Cardiff

American chargrilled burger chain Carl’s JR has chosen Cardiff for its first venue in the UK. The Californian-based business, which was set up in 1941, has entered into franchise and operating agreement with Boporan Restaurant Group, for a planned rolled out of its brand across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Its first UK restaurant, which will create around 40 jobs, is scheduled to open in April at the St David’s Shopping Centre. It will be able to seat 50 people.

Speaking to publication the Caterer, Carl’s JR country manager for the UK, David Moffat, said: "Carl’s JR has a reputation for delivering high quality, crave-worthy food that stands out in the burger market.

“We’re thrilled to bring this iconic brand to Cardiff, our first location in the UK. We’ve had incredible interest from fans eager to experience the Carl’s JR difference, and we can’t wait to welcome them this April.”

Mr Moffat said the brand’s rollout in the UK will bring a ‘West Coast vibe’ tailored to British tastes. Carl’s JR has 4,000 restaurants globally operated directly or under franchise agreements.

Boparan Restaurant Group operates nine brands, including Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Carluccio’s and Slim Chicken.
